Psychiatry = Science + Soul
Welcome to Integra Mental Health.
Integra Mental Health is an integrative psychiatry collective that believes psychiatry should equal science plus soul.
Our mission is to provide a secure haven that integrates diverse traditions to offer all patients the thorough, compassionate, and comprehensive care they deserve.
Our Team
We are a queer-owned and operated practice that believes the most integral components of our work involve:
Nurturing holistic well-being
Harnessing the healing power within human connection
Addressing the root causes of suffering
Upholding the dignity and integrity of each individual’s journey towards wellness and authenticity.
We see patients via telehealth in Maryland, Massachusetts, and Washington, DC. We are currently accepting new patients. Click the contact button on the top right of this page if you have questions, or are interested in working together.

Jess Romeo (he/they)
FOUNDER
Jess Romeo (pronounced just like Romeo & Juliet) is a trans-identified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and clinical social worker who dreamed of building an LGBTQIA+ affirming, integrative psychiatry practice where patients could receive TRULY holistic and comprehensive care.
He believes this is only possible with thoughtful providers who have the time, autonomy, and philosophy to think outside the box and meet patients where they are.
In addition to being the lead clinician for Integra, he also leads educational programming and mentorship opportunities for other clinicians to learn trans-affirming care. For more information on this training, please click here.

“Between stimulus and response, there is space. In that space lies our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”
– Viktor Frankl
We’re a little different from most other psychiatric providers! Here’s how…
-
The process starts with either a 75 minute, 90 minute, or 2 hour initial consultation where we go over your past treatments, current concerns, and take a deep dive together to try and understand the root of the problem. We may recommend medication, therapy, lab testing, supplements, and behavioral treatments to try and get you feeling better as efficiently and as quickly as possible. Follow-ups are a minimum of 25-30 minutes, and up to 50 minutes for more comprehensive review, or psychotherapy in addition to medical treatment.
-
Our founder’s background as both a clinical social worker and psychiatric nurse practitioner means that we are committed to a uniquely holistic approach to psychiatry that blends the best of medicine, psychotherapy, and a whole-person, holistic framework to your care. Our former patients and colleagues describe us as “unicorns” because they had never worked with prescribers who think and work the way we do!
So — if you are looking for both therapy and medication, aren’t sure what you need, or are just looking for someone to treat you the way YOU want to be treated, you’re in the right place. Our providers’ extensive training in both nursing and psychotherapeutic disciplines means we know how to balance the dosing of biological, psychological, and behavioral treatments so you get quicker, more efficient relief from suffering.
-
Supplements, plant-based medicine, and nutraceutical treatments are excellent complements or alternatives to medications. Oftentimes, these interventions allow us to use medication for a shorter time, or be able to use lower doses. We also provide and interpret functional lab testing to better investigate nutrient deficiencies and root causes of complicated or distressing symptoms.
-
Patients with chronic illnesses - especially “invisible” ones like chronic fatigue, MCAS, POTS, or fibromyalgia are often dismissed in the medical system. Sometimes it’s a matter of being dismissed or unheard, being part of a marginalized group, or maybe it’s because providers don’t have the expertise or time to develop effective treatment plans.
We specialize in working with ME/CFS, the above mentioned conditions, as well as adrenal fatigue and fibromyalgia. We are passionate about helping folks with these debilitating illnesses find a pathway to affirming care, increased energy, vitality, and functioning in their lives.
-
The founder of Integra is a queer and trans-identified provider, and our entire staff is part of the queer community. If you are also a member of this community, we are here to provide affirming psychiatric care. Our providers also provide assessments and letters for gender-affirming surgery as well as general psychiatry.
We know how exhausting and discouraging it can be to feel like you’re wasting your time in therapy or medical appointments educating your own therapist or psychiatrist about how best to treat you.
You won’t have to do that here. Your time and emotional resources are too valuable to be wasting on providers who are the ones supposed to be helping YOU.
-
We offer all sessions via telehealth to fit your busy schedule. We have also streamlined our online systems to make the process from initial contact to ongoing treatment intuitive and easy to navigate. Though we don’t work with insurance companies, Integra Mental Health uses Reimbursify to make the process of filing claims for out-of-network reimbursement as easy as possible.
-
Sometimes one of the most frustrating things about getting medical care is not being able to get in touch with your provider when you need them. Rest assured, you will NOT have to navigate a complicated phone tree to get in touch with your provider for questions, scheduling appointments, or refills.
We have a streamlined technological system that makes it easy to get started working together, and you can contact us directly when you have questions, concerns, or a request. Forget about voicemails that seem to go into the abyss - you can get in touch with your provider directly!
-
It may seem obvious that all psychiatry should be trauma-informed, but our experience is that it isn’t. Many psychiatric providers don’t think about this and they end up giving recommendations you don’t trust, because…
1. It feels like they never actually listened to you
2. They didn’t give you time to ask questions
3. They didn’t create a safe space where you felt okay to disagree with them.
We know how important it is to give you control, empowerment, and safety from the very beginning. We will take as much time as is needed to listen to what is important to you, make sure you understand the recommendations we’re giving, and give you the chance to ask questions, share concerns, or talk about alternatives.
